Visual form

Growth projection chart.

Layout / body structure

The chart is organized as a forward-looking growth comparison for circular-economy product segments in Europe. Reader moves from today’s demand shift toward the projected scale of those segments by 2030.

What is being compared

It compares the expected growth of circular-economy product segments with the older take-make-waste consumer-goods model, emphasizing how sustainability-linked demand is changing the market.

Measurement system

The chart uses annual growth rates and market size in euros, so the reader tracks both how quickly the segments are growing and how large the market could become by 2030.

Visible structure inside the graphic

The main pieces are the circular-product segment markers, the growth-rate framing, and the 2030 value range attached to the market. The chart is structured to make the long-run market expansion as visible as the near-term demand shift.

Main takeaway from the visual

The page shows that circularity is not only a sustainability idea but also a growth market. The visual turns changing consumer preference into a sizable European consumer-goods opportunity.

Key standout values or extremes

The page highlights annual growth of about 10 to 15 percent for European circular-economy product segments, reaching roughly 400 billion to 650 billion euros by 2030. That projected range is the dominant value on the page.

Round and round we grow

Sustainability | Europe

November 1, 2022 – Consumer demand is shifting toward greener goods, say McKinsey senior partner Stefan Helmcke and coauthors. Younger generations are expressing their values through their purchasing decisions, leading toward a sustainable and increasingly circular model for consumer products, instead of the established take-make-waste model. By McKinsey estimates, the shift in demand could result in a €400 billion to €650 billion annual opportunity for European companies.

By 2030, European circular-economy product segments will grow at around 10 to 15 percent annually to reach around €400 billion to €650 billion.
