SURAH 69 — Al-Ḥāqqah — الحاقة — “The Inevitable Reality”

Thamud and ‘Aad denied the Striking Calamity.	4	Meccan	5327
So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].	5	Meccan	5328
And as for ‘Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind	6	Meccan	5329
Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.	7	Meccan	5330
Then do you see of them any remains?	8	Meccan	5331
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.	9	Meccan	5332
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].	10	Meccan	5333
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship	11	Meccan	5334
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.	12	Meccan	5335
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast	13	Meccan	5336
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow –	14	Meccan	5337
Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,	15	Meccan	5338
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.	16	Meccan	5339
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].	17	Meccan	5340
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.	18	Meccan	5341
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, “Here, read my record!	19	Meccan	5342
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account.”	20	Meccan	5343
So he will be in a pleasant life –	21	Meccan	5344
In an elevated garden,	22	Meccan	5345
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.	23	Meccan	5346
[They will be told], “Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past.”	24	Meccan	5347
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, “Oh, I wish I had not been given my record	25	Meccan	5348
And had not known what is my account.	26	Meccan	5349
I wish my death had been the decisive one.	27	Meccan	5350
My wealth has not availed me.	28	Meccan	5351
Gone from me is my authority.”	29	Meccan	5352
[Allah will say], “Seize him and shackle him.	30	Meccan	5353
Then into Hellfire drive him.	31	Meccan	5354
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him.”	32	Meccan	5355
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great,	33	Meccan	5356
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.	34	Meccan	5357
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend	35	Meccan	5358
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;	36	Meccan	5359
None will eat it except the sinners.	37	Meccan	5360
So I swear by what you see	38	Meccan	5361
And what you do not see	39	Meccan	5362
[That] indeed, the Qur’an is the word of a noble Messenger.	40	Meccan	5363
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.	41	Meccan	5364
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.	42	Meccan	5365
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.	43	Meccan	5366
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,	44	Meccan	5367
We would have seized him by the right hand;	45	Meccan	5368
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.	46	Meccan	5369
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.	47	Meccan	5370
And indeed, the Qur’an is a reminder for the righteous.	48	Meccan	5371
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.	49	Meccan	5372
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.	50	Meccan	5373
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.	51	Meccan	5374
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.	52	Meccan	5375
