SURAH 82 — Al-Infiṭār — الانفطار — “The Cleaving Asunder”

• Revelation Order: 82
• Event Anchor: Late Meccan cosmic warning phase (c. 619–622 CE)

Explanation:
Al-Infiṭār, like its neighboring Meccan surahs, uses dramatic eschatological imagery—splitting skies, scattered stars, opened graves—to unsettle listeners and emphasize divine judgment. This aligns with a time in Mecca when ideological resistance was entrenched and the Qur’an escalated its emphasis on resurrection and accountability. The surah’s indictment of human negligence toward divine oversight reflects the moral complacency that characterized Meccan society before the Prophet’s migration. Its tone embodies the final attempts to awaken a stubborn audience through powerful cosmic warnings.
