The direct enzymatic transfer of a phosphoryl group from a high-phosphoryl-transfer-potential metabolic intermediate to ADP, GDP, or another nucleoside diphosphate.
It does not require:
- a membrane;
- an electron-transport chain;
- ATP synthase;
- an ion gradient.
