A massive ancient plateau dominating eastern and central Brazil. Elevation creates more temperate climates, open savannas (Cerrado), and agriculturally viable basins. River systems radiate outward from the highlands, enabling interior settlement and later state expansion. Geography supports semi-dense populations, regional polities, and eventually Brazil’s inland growth. Unlike the Amazon, the highlands create stable agricultural cores capable of long-range cultural unification.
