- acetyl-CoA and other thioesters
- phosphoenolpyruvate
- acyl phosphates
- activated sugars
- activated amino-acid intermediates
Operational definition
Conserved chemical activation state.
The capacity of an activated molecule to transfer a chemical group in a reaction that would otherwise be unfavorable or too slow.
Transferred groups may include:
- acyl groups;
- methyl groups;
- glycosyl groups;
- aminoacyl groups;
- carbon dioxide equivalents.
Acyl-CoA thioesters and activated sugars are major examples.
