Operational definition
Accounting input.
The gross rate or quantity at which energy-bearing matter, photons, electrons, or nutrients are captured across the defined system boundary.
A valid measurement must specify:
- the system boundary;
- the resource;
- the time interval;
- the unit of measurement;
- whether encounter, capture, ingestion, or uptake is being measured.
“Acquisition” must not be equated automatically with assimilation.
