October 31, 2022 – To stay competitive, insurance carriers might look to the cloud. Leading carriers are already using it to provide quick, efficient service to customers. Insurers that decide to migrate their computing systems to the cloud would be in good company, McKinsey senior partner Steve Van Kuiken and coauthors note: among C-suite leaders across sectors, a third expect to have up to 50 percent of their computing environment in the cloud in the next five years.

Visual form
Migration-intent bar chart.
Layout / body structure
The chart is laid out as a survey comparison of public-cloud migration plans, with the reader moving from current cloud use toward expected migration over the next five years. The reading order is from present deployment to future target share.
What is being compared
It compares the share of business leaders planning to migrate more of their computing environment to the public cloud, with a focus on insurance carriers in the context of broader cross-sector behavior.
Measurement system
The page uses survey percentages, especially the share of leaders expecting to move substantial portions of their environments into the public cloud.
Visible structure inside the graphic
The internal pieces are the migration-intent categories and the associated response shares. The chart uses a small set of clearly labeled deployment ranges so the concentration of leaders around larger cloud moves becomes easy to see.
Main takeaway from the visual
The page shows that cloud migration is moving from optional experiment to mainstream operating model. Insurance carriers are positioned inside a broader shift in which most leaders expect materially more public-cloud use within a few years.
Key standout values or extremes
The strongest headline is that in the next five years most business leaders surveyed plan to migrate more of their computing environment to the public cloud, and about one-third expect to move up to half of it.
