Digital trust is earned
Economy | Resilience
December 9, 2022 – Digital-trust leaders are outperforming their peers both in loss prevention and business growth, say senior partners Alex Singla, Kate Smaje, and coauthors. We consider digital-trust leaders to be companies with employees who follow codified data, AI, and general ethics policies and that engage in at least half of the best practices that we asked about in a recent survey. Click through the interactive to see how digital-trust leaders are more likely to engage in a range of best practices across data privacy, AI ethics, and cybersecurity compared with other organizations.

Visual form
Tabbed dot/lollipop comparison chart.
Layout / body structure
The chart has Data privacy, AI ethics, and Cybersecurity tabs. Each view lists practices on the left and places paired dots across a 0 to 100 percent scale.
What is being compared
It compares the share of digital trust leaders and other organizations that engage in specific best practices within the selected topic area.
Measurement system
The measure is percent of respondents. Bright blue dots represent trust leaders, black dots represent other organizations, and each row’s gray band provides the comparison line.
Visible structure inside the graphic
The visible Data privacy tab shows seven rows of practices. Trust-leader dots cluster around the high 70s to mid-80s, while other-organization dots sit much farther left, often around the 30s and 40s.
Main takeaway from the visual
The chart shows that digital trust leaders report data privacy practices much more often than other organizations, and the gap repeats across the practice list.
Key standout values or extremes
The largest visible gaps are on privacy-risk assessment, third-party due diligence, breach procedures, and metrics for data-privacy mitigation, where the blue dots sit far to the right of the black dots.
Controls / sequence, when applicable
The tabs switch between Data privacy, AI ethics, and Cybersecurity inside the chart.
