Wheels down, most people prefer this vehicle
Mobility
January 12, 2022 – Across the globe, hopping on a bike (either electric or traditional) is how most people prefer to get to work. Almost 70 percent of respondents in the recent Mobility Ownership Consumer Survey stated that they were willing to use micromobility vehicles for their commute. The survey included 6,000 respondents from China, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the US.

Visual form
Horizontal stacked bar chart.
Layout / body structure
The chart is a single ranked stack of country rows read top to bottom, with one horizontal bar for the global average and then individual country rows beneath it. Each row is split into preferred bicycle, moped, e-kickscooter, and non-micromobility segments, so the reader compares both total willingness and mode preference within each bar.
What is being compared
The chart compares preferred micromobility vehicles for commuting across the global average, China, Italy, France, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It compares willingness to use bicycles, mopeds, and e-kickscooters against the share preferring other transport or no micromobility at all.
Measurement system
Each horizontal bar sums to 100 percent of respondents. Segment labels printed inside the stacks show the percentage share for bicycle, moped, e-kickscooter, and the residual non-micromobility preference, with colors separating the transport modes.
Visible structure inside the graphic
Every country row contains up to four colored horizontal segments: dark for bicycles, light blue for mopeds, blue for e-kickscooters, and gray for other transport or no micromobility. The country list allows quick top-to-bottom comparison, and China stands out with a long moped segment while the UK and US stand out with larger gray sections.
Main takeaway from the visual
Most respondents show willingness to use micromobility, but the preferred vehicle mix varies meaningfully by country. Bicycles dominate many markets, China leans heavily toward mopeds, and the United States and United Kingdom retain the largest shares preferring other transport or no micromobility.
Key standout values or extremes
Globally, the chart shows 40 percent preferring bicycles, 16 percent mopeds, 12 percent e-kickscooters, and 31 percent other transport or no micromobility. China is the strongest micromobility market at 49 percent bicycles and 31 percent mopeds with only 14 percent in the gray remainder, while the UK has the largest gray segment at 46 percent and the US follows at 40 percent.
