What This Field Means
Whether the organization has its own command identity and what kind of command it is.
This records whether the subject itself carries a command identity and, when evidence permits, the character of that command. It separates actual commands from organizational labels, staff elements, facilities, and physical assets.
How to Read It Correctly
Command Status is not Current Status and is not Command Authority. It does not say whether the organization is active today or whether another command exercises OPCON, TACON, ADCON, or COCOM authority over it.

Technical Specification
The database column is [USMIL-Unit].[Unit].[CommandStatus]. Evidence-derived command-character statement, distinct from lifecycle status and command-authority relationships such as OPCON or ADCON.
Use an evidence-supported command characterization. If command standing is unclear, preserve the uncertainty rather than treating words such as headquarters, center, ship, or activity as automatic proof.

Allowed Values and Definitions
No preset menu applies to this field. It stores an identifier, relationship, measurement, date, timestamp, or evidence-derived narrative. Valid content is governed by the SQL type, key relationship, nullability, retained evidence, and the field-specific recording rule above. A list of observed contents would be data, not a list of allowed options.
Missing, Unknown, and Conflicting Information
This column cannot be NULL in the Unit table. When the underlying fact is incomplete, the record must use an allowed explicit disposition or a supported evidence-derived statement. Required storage does not mean that every historical fact is known, and it never authorizes a guessed value.
