What This Field Means
The people or subordinate organizations that belong to the unit by its normal design rather than by a temporary assignment.
This describes the organizations, personnel, or functional elements that belong to the unit as part of its normal designed structure. It helps readers understand what the unit is made of before temporary assignments and attachments are added.
How to Read It Correctly
Organic composition is not the same as every subordinate record, every person assigned, or every element present during one operation. Assigned and attached forces must be distinguished from what belongs organically.
Example
Organic companies of a battalion or squadrons permanently belonging to a group.
Technical Specification
The database column is [USMIL-Unit].[Unit].[OrganicComposition]. Optional evidence-derived composition narrative for inherent organizational elements. It is not a foreign-key relationship list.
Record an evidence-based composition summary with an applicable date, model, or source context when known. Use relationship records for exact subordinate identities; this field is a readable summary, not the authoritative edge list.

Allowed Values and Definitions
No preset menu applies to this field. It stores an identifier, relationship, measurement, date, timestamp, or evidence-derived narrative. Valid content is governed by the SQL type, key relationship, nullability, retained evidence, and the field-specific recording rule above. A list of observed contents would be data, not a list of allowed options.
Missing, Unknown, and Conflicting Information
A database NULL is permitted and means that no value is presently stored. It does not prove that the fact never existed, that the answer is no, or that the concept does not apply. Missing information must remain visibly different from a supported negative or inapplicable conclusion.
