SURAH 85 — Al-Burūj — البروج — “The Constellations”

• Revelation Order: 27
• Event Anchor: Early Meccan persecution narrative period (c. 612–616 CE)

Explanation:
Al-Burūj recounts the story of the “People of the Trench,” a community annihilated for their faith, providing moral support to early Muslims facing growing persecution in Mecca. This aligns with the stage when believers were mocked, marginalized, and in some cases tortured for their commitment to Islam. The surah reassures the oppressed by highlighting God’s ultimate justice and the fate of tyrants who persecute the faithful. Its combination of cosmic oaths and historical martyrdom narratives fits a moment when the fledgling community needed spiritual resolve against escalating hostility.
